It's really very simple:

Racing drivers will take any advantage they think they can get away
with. The only thing that can stop them trying is to make it clear that
it ISN'T to their advantage.

Drivers put everything but one tiny piece of one tire over the line if
their is pavement for the other three tires...

...and they'll tell you that--somehow!--it's impossible for them to
avoid doing so.

But put a wall outside a corner, and...

...somehow!...

...the drivers can avoid hitting that wall lap after lap.

At our own track, they had a problem with the drivers putting their left
side tires past the kerbing, and onto the grass coming out of turn 1;
leading to a dangerous situation of a rut which could flip a lighter car
if it was hit wrong.

So they've added about 3-4 feet of asphalt outside the kerbing...

...and unsurprisingly, drivers are suddenly using all of that!
