Has anyone got a worse record than Lando for losing the lead from pole
in the first lap? Or failing to convert pole to a win?

I don't know exact numbers, but Leclerc didn't convert pole to victory
many times.

A little fiddling in Forix says Norris has eight poles, with only two
wins from them.

Leclerc has 26 poles and only 5 wins from them.

The other guy with 26 poles is Mika Häkkinen; 10 wins.

Same hit rate as Jarno Trulli; 1 from 4

WOW!
Leclerc has less than 20% sucess ratio.
Mika was better with 38%
And Lando is on 25%.

So, Leclerc is really the worst in this regard. It would be nice if
there is an analysis for this record. Does anyone know about it?

I wonder what happened to our resident statistician (I forget his name)? He
used to come up with some amazing stats, mainly derived from Forix.

Thinking of Brian Lawrence? He mentioned once or twice that he had his
own database. He hasn't posted in rasf1 for a couple of years.

Getting some data out of Forix is easy (list of all winners with number
of wins; same for poles) but other questions would be tedious without an
actual database to query.

Thanks for this, Mark. Yes, it was Brian Lawrence. Shame he doesn’t post
here anymore.

My memory has deteriorated badly over the last couple of years (I’m now in
my 86th year).

I couldn't remember either, so I searched the saved messages in my
motorsports file for "database." Lots of obvious false positives, but

Over the last few weeks I have been working on putting the qualifying data
into a database. Having more or less finished this task I have analysed all
drivers qualifying records to produce a more accurate table of the all-time
best qualifiers.
