Reminds me a bit of the old Schumacher: doing a bit too much to defend a
position.

As Martin Brundle commented, he's reverting to how he acted when he
first came up to F1 now that he is under some pressure.

Things are going to get interesting for the rest of the season, I suspect.

His friendship with Norris seems unlikely to survive today.

Hard to say.

It depends a lot on whether they can separate their friendship from
their job.

He's not "reverting" at all. He's the same as he's always been.

It's just that when his car was dominant there was no need to take the
risks of damage and penalties that came with being overly agressive.

Just as I was starting to respect Max he goes and pulls this shit. He moved under braking several
times to keep Lando behind him then simply took Lando out (and got a non-penalty for it).

Thinking about it I suspect the only reason I was starting to respect Max was because there was
nobody near him on track lately for him to show his dirty side I could just admire his driving in
isolation. However I have a strong dislike for dirty drivers and today Max showed that he still is one.

I never thought that he was any different than he ever was.

But the other thing is:

He's not really different than anyone else who runs at the sharp end.
