Bathurst 1000 is on today.
Dave Reynolds a real Aussie bloke driving for the smallest team is on
a very popular pole position. And, we'll have something of an Aussie
- Kiwi battle with New Zealands best drivers driving for two of the
biggest teams. As they say "Pull up a pew, crack a tinny, this is
shaping up to be a classic."
New Zealands BEST drivers aren't at Bathurst. There are a few NZ drivers who
didn't get the breaks in other series there (and a couple who inexplicably
*chose* to race in Aus). One of the better NZ drivers (Stanaway) is in a car
that he says would only have had a chance in the wet as it's grossly
underpowered.

Not available here unless you have Sky so is a non-event to the masses.

Actually Bamber's pretty good, I didn't realise he was co-driving for van
Gisbergen. Lat year Gis had an average co-driver. Maybe he'll do better this
year with Earl.

Dumbrell usually races in this series doesn't he? Like a 20-year Bathurst

If anyone is watching the race. Of the top 4 cars (9, 97, 1, 17 ATM, lap 25) all with the co-driver in the car, Dumbrell in car 1 would be the best. Worth keeping an eye on that car.

Mind you I'm barracking for the underdog, car 9.

Premat showing real class there in car 17 (a Kiwi is the main driver, but don't tell Shaun he wouldn't realise that ;-)

As they say "Pull up a pew, crack a tinny, this is shaping up to be a classic."
So much for car 1.
Wheel's come off that effort.
Yeah, that's the mountain, bites.
Premat showing real class there in car 17 (a Kiwi is the main driver, but don't tell Shaun he wouldn't realise that ;-)
RAIN !
Fun, fun, fun.

Fascinated to hear on the brake change that there a new system to swap
rotor, pads and callipers together! How do they avoid air getting in?
(I spent yesterday morning changing a stuck brake calliper on my old car).

They covered that, it's just a dry-break system. The bloke who did that segment is damned good value, Sky F1 could learn from him.

BTW. If you don't know the Kiwi's to watch are "The Gis" (S. Van Gisbergen) in car 97 and S. McLaughlin in 17. The Gis is damn good perhaps the fastest over a given lap. Both are in top teams.

My last count is 6 NZ drivers in the field but only one car has both drivers
coming from NZ.

Not that the other Kiwi's are not good either before you jump to conclusions.

Shaun,
Earl's last stint was a ripper. It's that sort of driving will be remembered and not his earlier pit entry mistake.

I liked the result, if the young battlers didn't win it was great to see a couple of old blokes show they still have what it takes :-)

Idiot of the race: David Reynolds. It was obvious, even live, that he was completely out of it should get out of the car as soon as the upcoming pit window opened. The #2 driver might not keep the 2nd place, but he probably wouldn't lose much. Instead ... lost it all.

And if he wouldn't make the decision himself the team should have made him.
