I am curious why Mercedes and Ferrari would resist the budget cap. Car sales
are down. Where are they getting $175 million to burn? Do the racing teams
have a huge reserve fund hidden away?
They resist it because their success is often due to the sum of many small incremental gains. This
type of gain costs a lot of money in research and manpower. Car sales might be down (for a long
time yet) but both Ferrari and Mercedes AMG benefit in sales from success on the track. Therefore
to both of them it's money well spent.
