Looking at the pics on https://www.autosport.com/f1/live/2750912/barcelona-f1-test-day-one-2018 looks like a few teams (Williams, Ferrari etc) have
some form of aero on the halo. Am I seeing that right?

Yes. The halo itself is fixed and supplied by a third party, but there is provision in the regulations for a decorative or aero shrouding.

Yes. If you were to follow Marc Priestleys youtube channel you'd know this
already. ;)

The halo cuts peripheral vision below zero. Should make for great wheel
to wheel launches.

"Below zero". Less than nothing? Negative? Hyperbole much?

From what the drivers are saying, they almost don't notice it's there.

From my layman's perspective, it doesn't appear to interfere with views to
the left or the right, there's no blockage to the front apparent from
the in car views.

Complete damp squib. Of course, at some point some driver will blame the
halo for a crash, that's inevitable. Whether it will be factually correct
is another matter altogether.

Really good vision was lost years ago when helmets became more enclosed,
drivers started sitting lower and lower in the cockpit and the foam covers
over their shoulders were put in place. Net benefit on safety is positive.

I did hear Jolien Palmer talking on R5L about hating it, and I can see why
in principle it is objected to. And I can see that it doesn't prevent some
of the most recent injuries (Massa and Bianchi in particular). But its here
to stay now I reckon, and I'm not entirely sure that F1 loses much as a
consequence.

From that picture the vertical part of the structure is behind the
plane of their eyes, so would have no significant effect on peripheral
vision.

That's looking at it from behind the driver's head position. At a rough
guess, the open part of the halo begins just before the hinges for the
visor on the driver's helmet.

In short, he loses nothing.

I can't agree. The raised surround which was on the cars last year was higher than the drivers eye-line and the halo is attached there. A quick look at the 'slide-view' images show that quite clearly.

That might be true. But everyone, including F1 drivers, seems to think
you are talking nonsense on this issue.

the angle of the photo does not help in judging this one.
