When appointing a field marshal, Napoleon famously reviewed the
candidate's experience, track record and skills and then asked the
definitive question "Is he lucky?"

Somehow, I don't think he would have picked Hamilton.

And of course Napoleon won all of his campaigns and went on to rule as a
just and benign emperor rather than being exiled on an island (more than
once)...
